That’s a big question – as the lift force is transmitted across an air gap/with no physical support. The second question is how small and light can a SILA actuator be and still output 6kN force?
5+ years in the making, our Airbus project is good to go, funded by NATEP/ATI and sponsored by Airbus. We’ll use our NPL scaling models to size a SILA unit for a Airbus utility actuator specification followed by build and test – with input from our collaborators @ Bristol University’s Electrical Energy Management Group.
