SILA electrifies an industrial gripper

We’ve retrofitted SILA P7 into a Schunk PHL-63-80S gripper, replacing its pneumatic actuator. Tests showed clear performance, cost and time saving benefits with no jamming risk cf. conventional EMAs:

    • Objects can be gripped at high rate using simple current control without need for a buffer zone or knowing object dimensions.
    • Soft and fragile objects like groceries can be gripped securely purely using current control – without extra sensors.
    • Objects are gripped with high accuracy(4μm) and force(750N).

Schunk’s priority is high power gripping and SILA is not there yet, but Schunk confirms SILA suitability for service robotics.

To get the humanoids to replace people will require mechanisms/wiring that approach these fantastic reliabilities.
